Logrono to Navarette – 12kms (by taxi)
My feet were still suffering so badly, I knew I couldn’t walk another day on them. I made the tough decision to take a taxi to get me to Navarette to rest them, but also allow me to continue on with BC and Irish.
They left a little later than normal, but I stayed in bed, knowing we would be meeting up later.
It is hard mentally to make decisions that go against what you planned and what you think you should be doing.
After a trip to the pharmacy and being loaded up with numerous items for my feet once the chemist was quite taken aback by how swollen they were, I hopped into a taxi to visit Decathlon.
As I walked through the doors, I fell over laughing because there was BC and Irish just finishing up from shopping.
It was a fruitless shopping trip for me, but across the road was a Burger King. I don’t think I have ever been in a Burger King before in my life, but for some reason, right at that moment, it seemed like the best thing in the world. (When BC found out I had been there, she wanted to punch me as she loves burgers!)
It was a nice timeout and somehow, I managed to organise a taxi with the help of some people who thought they were just coming in for a meal. This taxi ride was an entertaining trip of charades as the driver “explained” things about the Camino.
As we figured it might be our last night all together, we decided to splurge on accommodation in Navarette. Posada Ignatius is a beautifully restored Spanish villa.
Once BC and Irish arrived and they had a shower, we wandered around the lovely village.
The church Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was a beautiful, serene church, but when you dropped a coin into the light box, the altar lit up and even without being religious, it took your breath away.
Food options were in short supply, so we settled in to a little bar and managed to be first in line when the tapas began, much to the angst of the other pilgrims as we ordered plate after plate of items.
I actually had to make sure I was back at the room by 8pm as I had a woman coming to give me a massage. Was a great way to end the day.
Burger King is our Hungry Jacks 🙂 nothing beats a greasy burger after a week of Spanish food lol!!!!
It tasted fabulous. Wouldn’t think that at home! xx
